HIVE HILLS HOBBY FARM
Hive Hills LLC (DBA Hive Hills Hobby Farm) is located in Leelanau County's rolling hills and forests. Designed with deep respect for the land and a mission of fostering healing, personal growth, and community wellness, Hive Hills is a passion project and exploration into the Norwegian forest farming philosophy. Farming first, with future plans to offer managed outdoor spaces for nature-based experiences such as yoga, mindfulness meditation, walking meditations, animal-assisted growth and learning, art therapy, and seasonal wellness workshops. Guided by the company’s interests in sustainable farming in tandem with the philosophy of "Hive Mind Healing: Nature’s Path to Wellness," the property blends sustainable living, experiential learning, and mindful disconnection from the digital world.

Vision
Hive Hills, in collaboration with Hawthorn Hive, envisions a peaceful, intentionally tended environment where individuals and groups can reconnect with the restorative rhythms of nature. Guided by a Norwegian Forest Farm philosophy and rooted in land stewardship, we plan to cultivate a sanctuary for healing, learning, and community connection. Our small hobby farm and its friendly animals enrich this landscape, offering grounding, experiential encounters that support nervous system regulation, inspire curiosity, and nurture a deeper relationship with the natural world. As we grow, Hive Hills aims to evolve into a community co-op farm, expanding opportunities for shared learning, sustainable living, and nature-based experiential programs for all ages.
Story
Reviving the deep Norwegian heritage of the owner and founder, this vision grows from a search into her roots and the legacy of her grandfather, Dr. Sorenson, MSU agriculture professor, researcher, and steadfast Norwegian farmer at heart. This land is tended in honor of his lifelong commitment to stewardship, curiosity, and the science of growing well. The forest farm’s community-service spirit echoes the generous nature of Marilyn, his devoted life partner, whose quiet devotion shaped generations. Envisioned as a co-op model that nourishes connection, resilience, and shared purpose, the forest welcomes creativity, gentle restoration, and meaningful participation for all who enter, supporting a renewed relationship with land and one another. Skoglandbruk translates to forest farming.
Community
Our hive is a growing community of individuals, families, educators, wellness practitioners, land stewards, and seekers of connection who share a belief in the healing power of nature. Guided by farmers, crafters, teachers, experiential therapists, and other wellness professionals, each offering their own lived experience and embodied wisdom, we collaborate to nurture both this land and the people who gather on it.
Hive Hills is intentionally neuro-affirming, queer-affirming, and welcoming to people of all identities and abilities. Our shared mission is to foster a place rooted in presence, inclusivity, and meaningful relationships with the natural world. In this space, everyone can feel held, seen, and invited to participate in their own way.
“The clearest way into the Universe is through a forest wilderness.”
